2012-366 Day 91 – Directions

Every semester I teach my class about algorithms, instructing them that they must be clear, concise, and, most importantly, complete. When you make a peanut butter sandwich and need to get to the peanut butter, you should include the instruction to open the jar.

So when I walk into the Starbucks restroom and see that they have a six step process for hand washing that ends with shutting off the water, well you and I naturally assume we know what the first step is, right?

We’d be wrong.

Yes, I see that the purpose is to tell them to use a paper towel to shut off the water, but it just looks weird unbalanced.
